Welcome To hakuba Cricket club
Hakuba Cricket Club (HCC) is the culmination of the efforts of a few avid cricket players and supporters.
The Japanese summer of 2009 was when it all began. Several internationals living in the small village of Hakuba, Nagano, all with business interests for the winter months decided they needed a summer pastime. Several of these people played cricket in their youth and really missed the tension, the drama and the controversy ingrained in the sport. Thus a weekly Thursday evening game was born.
With no real area for playing a lodge owner with a large tennis court area donated the space for the Thursday evening festivities. With limited space, rules and regulations were soon developed as these games became increasingly competitive. It was Australia versus The Rest of the World on most occasions with between 4-7 members per team each game.
These games fueled by passion and alcoholic beverages were a highlight of the 2009 summer for many hakuba locals. During the after match functions it was decided that in 2010 there should be a more formal organisation formed so as we could start playing other teams in Japan. Home and away games were discussed as possibilities, with the view to having fun and meeting new people.
So here we are, welcome to Hakuba Cricket Club, a cricket organisation in the beautiful Japan Alps, which is more known for powder snow and outdoor activities than the great game of cricket. However this may all be about to change, HCC would love to develop the game of cricket in the area for all. Everyone is welcome to join our club and share in the fun which surrounds this fantastic game, or come and play us in the spectacular Hakuba Valley.
